After many years of wondering if I would ever have a child, my husband Daniel and I decided to pursue a gestational carrier. Although I could not carry a child myself, I produced healthy viable eggs that could be fertilized with my husband’s sperm and placed in a gestational carrier who would carry the baby to term.
We began with a visit to the doctor’s office on Christmas Eve. Dan and I listened as he explained all that we would need to do. As we left the doctors office, my head was spinning. There was so much information to digest and so much work to do.
We eventually found our carrier. She had a family of her own with three children and a loving relationship with her husband who was supportive. Still I worried.
I was able to produce nine healthy embryos. They were fertilized in vitro and three were implanted in our carrier’s uterus. By the sixth week of pregnancy two remained – one had miscarried. We prayed these fetuses would develop into health babies, and they did. When our carrier was 37 weeks pregnancy, the doctor told us the babies were due. We packed our bags and drove to Maine to deliver our babies.
Throughout this process, there was so much information to gather – so much to learn and keep track of medically, legally, and financially. Years later, as I have had the opportunity to assist other couples through gestational carrier arrangements, it made perfect sense to take one aspect of the arrangement off the shoulders of these intended parents.
This is how Surrogate Fund Management, LLC was born. Today, Surrogate Fund Management handles the escrow for many types of reproductive arrangements, including ovum, sperm and embryo donation agreements and gestational carrier agreements. Surrogate Fund Management also handles escrow for physicians, clinics, and agencies in the reproductive field.
